Ladies Prayers
Lord bless this man in fire gear
Responding to the call,
Guide his mind, guide his step,
Never let him fall.
The structure fire burns within
The flames grow higher still,
The heat grows intensely hot
With the fire's will
He risks his life to save the child
He does his very best,
Give him the strength he needs
To put the flames to rest
Protect this man, I love the most
Bring him home safe to me,
Let him know you're by his side
Throughout eternity.
And when it's calm and his work is done
But only for today,
Bless this man in fire gear
In Jesus' name I pray.
To a Volunteer’s Lady
I’m sure there are occasions when you stop and wonder why,
Your man can’t be normal like an ordinary guy.
What makes him want to volunteer, to dedicate himself,
To a job that puts a strain upon your mental health.
He spends a lot of precious time on weekends and at night,
At practice after practice and he still can’t get it right.
And though you heard him say that he’d be home just after nine,
He stumbles in at two AM with whoopee on his mind.
He never seems to have much time to help you with the chores,
But he’s often at the fire hall to wash the dirty floors.
And just when you convince him that it’s time to cut the lawn,
As if he knows – The pager goes – And in a flash he’s gone.
A lot of meals you cook for him are left there getting cold,
“I’ll be right back,” he tells you “kindly put my grub on hold”.
And hours later he comes in, all black and soaking wet,
And says to you, “I’m starving, is my supper ready yet?”
It takes a special person to put up with all this crap,
To calmly tolerate us without getting in a flap.
There can’t be many women who could stand to lead the life,
Of the dedicated soul who is a Firefighter’s wife.
We know that on occasion, you resent this dismal fate,
That often sees you wondering what’s happened to your mate.
We also know, but seldom show that you’re important too,
As a member of a team that does what someone has to do.
Ladies Auxiliary Prayer
The ladies wait while their men respond,
united as one in a common bond.
The bond of serving, each in their own way,
the needs that arise, be what they may.
The reheated meals, the unsipped drink, are a common occurrence,
much more than you think.
It's mostly rountine and done without flair,
the men return, their ladies are there.
But then comes the call, the tough one to fight,
a working fire that may last through the night.
The ladies again wait, but this time they know,
that sooner or later, they too will go.
As they wait for the signal, the time draws near,
for that sooner or later to be suddenly here.
The men are all weary, some of them spent,
the refreshments that arrive are like heaven sent.
The auxiliary , in fact, is more than a name,
it's dedicated arm of the volunteer game.
So when God we pray, for the fireman's care,
include the ladies, who are also there.
